Analgesic
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000540
A substance that relieves pain without causing a loss of consciousness. Analgesics act on the peripheral or central nervous system to block or reduce the perception of pain signals. They are broadly classified into non-opioids, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen, and opioids, such as morphine, which act on specific receptors in the brain.
