Anal membrane
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000539
A temporary embryonic structure that separates the hindgut from the exterior during early development. This membrane, formed by the fusion of the ectoderm and endoderm, normally ruptures to form the anal opening. Failure of the anal membrane to perforate results in an imperforate anus, a congenital anomaly.
