Cloacal membrane
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002123
A bilayered tissue that closes the posterior orifice of the embryonic hindgut, known as the cloaca. It is formed by the apposition of the ectoderm of the proctodeum and the endoderm of the cloaca, without intervening mesoderm. This membrane eventually perforates to create the openings for the urinary, genital, and digestive tracts, separating the urogenital system from the anal canal in many mammals.
