Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012552
An animal characterized by the possession of a backbone or spinal column, which encloses the spinal cord. This major group within the phylum Chordata includes mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish, all of which share this fundamental anatomical feature. In toxicology, specific vertebrate species, such as rats, mice, and zebrafish, serve as standard model organisms for assessing the effects of chemical substances on development and reproduction.
