Parthenogenesis

A form of asexual reproduction in which an embryo develops from an unfertilized egg cell. This process occurs without the genetic contribution of a male gamete. Parthenogenesis is observed in certain invertebrates, such as aphids and rotifers, and in some vertebrates, including a few species of fish, reptiles, and amphibians.
