Mesonephros
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007222
The middle embryonic kidney of vertebrates, which forms after the pronephros and before the metanephros. In fishes and amphibians it persists as the functional adult kidney, whereas in reptiles, birds and mammals it works briefly in the embryo and then regresses, with its duct and some tubules contributing to the male genital tract.
