Anamniote

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000561

An animal whose embryo develops without an amnion, a fluid-filled sac that surrounds and protects the embryo. This group includes fish and amphibians, which typically lay their eggs in water, where the aquatic environment provides protection and prevents desiccation. In contrast, amniotes, such as reptiles, birds, and mammals, develop an amnion.
