Chorion
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002029
The outermost fetal membrane that surrounds the embryo and other membranes, such as the amnion. It is formed by the trophoblast and an outer layer of mesoderm, and it contributes to the formation of the placenta. In placental mammals, the chorion develops villi that interdigitate with the maternal uterine tissue for exchange.
