Extraembryonic mesoderm
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004300
A layer of cells that forms during early embryogenesis, located between the inner surface of the trophoblast and the outer surface of the yolk sac. This tissue does not contribute to the body of the embryo itself but gives rise to the connective tissues and blood vessels of the placenta and other extraembryonic membranes. It splits to form the chorionic cavity, which surrounds the embryo and its associated sacs.
