Trophectoderm

The outer layer of cells of the blastocyst, which surrounds the inner cell mass and the blastocoel. This layer differentiates into the placenta and other extraembryonic tissues, mediating implantation into the uterine wall. It is responsible for nutrient and gas exchange between the mother and the developing embryo.
