Placentation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008993
The process of forming and developing the placenta, an organ that connects the developing fetus to the uterine wall in placental mammals. This complex biological event involves the differentiation of embryonic tissues and their integration with maternal tissues to establish a functional interface for nutrient and gas exchange. Different species exhibit variations in placental structure and attachment.
