Human chorionic somatomammotropin
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005416
A polypeptide hormone produced by the placenta during pregnancy that modifies the mother's metabolic state. This hormone, also known as human placental lactogen, has anti-insulin actions and promotes lipolysis, making more glucose and fatty acids available for the fetus. Measurement of human chorionic somatomammotropin (HCS) levels in maternal blood can be used to assess placental function.
