Hormone
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005395
A signaling molecule produced by glands in multicellular organisms, transported by the circulatory system to target distant organs to regulate physiology and behavior. Hormones act as chemical messengers, binding to specific receptors on target cells to initiate a cascade of cellular responses. Examples include insulin, which regulates blood glucose, and estrogen, which influences reproductive cycles.
