Adrenocortocotropic hormone

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000278

A polypeptide hormone, also known as corticotropin, that is synthesized and secreted by the anterior pituitary gland. It acts on the adrenal cortex to stimulate the production and release of corticosteroid hormones, most notably cortisol. The release of this hormone is controlled by corticotropin-releasing hormone from the hypothalamus as part of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis.
