Growth hormone

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005046

A peptide hormone secreted by the anterior pituitary gland that promotes growth, cell reproduction, and regeneration in humans and other animals. It stimulates the liver and other tissues to synthesize and secrete insulin-like growth factors, which have direct growth-promoting effects on almost all tissues of the body. In adults, this hormone does not cause growth in height but continues to regulate body composition, metabolism, and bone density.
