Follicle-stimulating hormone
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004570
A gonadotropin hormone synthesized and secreted by the anterior pituitary gland. In females, it stimulates the growth and maturation of ovarian follicles, while in males, it is necessary for the production of sperm. The blood concentration of this hormone is measured in nanograms per milliliter (ng/mL) or international units per liter (IU/L) to assess fertility and pituitary function.
