Follicle
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004569
A small, sac-like structure within an organ or gland, such as the skin or ovary, that has a secretory or excretory function. In reproductive toxicology, the term most often specifies the ovarian follicle, a fluid-filled structure in the ovary that encloses a developing oocyte. The ovarian follicle also synthesizes and secretes hormones, including estrogens and androgens, that regulate the menstrual cycle.
