Gland

An organ composed of specialized cells that synthesize and secrete substances for use elsewhere in the body or for elimination. Glands are classified as either endocrine, releasing hormones directly into the bloodstream, or exocrine, secreting products through ducts onto an epithelial surface. Examples of endocrine glands include the thyroid and pituitary, while salivary and sweat glands are exocrine.
