Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000146
A small, sac-like cavity or a berry-shaped cluster of cells at the terminal end of a duct in an exocrine gland. These structures are responsible for synthesizing and secreting the gland's product, such as saliva, milk, or digestive enzymes, into the ductal system. The acinus is considered the basic functional secretory unit of glands like the pancreas, salivary glands, and mammary glands.
