Primordial follicle
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009463
The most immature stage of an ovarian follicle, consisting of a primary oocyte arrested in prophase I of meiosis, surrounded by a single layer of flattened granulosa cells. These follicles are present in the ovaries at birth and represent the reserve of oocytes available for future ovulation. They remain dormant until recruited for development.
