Cumulus oophorus
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002790
A cluster of specialized granulosa cells that surrounds the oocyte both within the ovarian follicle and after ovulation. These cells provide nutrients to the developing egg and are involved in its maturation process. The expansion of the cumulus oophorus, a process stimulated by luteinizing hormone, is a prerequisite for successful ovulation and subsequent fertilization.
