Theca
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011920
The layer of connective tissue cells surrounding an ovarian follicle, which differentiates into two sub-layers: the theca interna and the theca externa. The theca interna cells are responsible for producing androgens, such as androstenedione, which are then converted to estrogens by granulosa cells. The theca externa provides structural support to the follicle.
