Gonadotropin
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004964
Any hormone that stimulates the function of the gonads, the primary reproductive organs. Produced mainly by the anterior pituitary gland, these protein hormones regulate gamete production and sex steroid synthesis in both males and females. The major gonadotropins in vertebrates are luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), while human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is produced by the placenta during pregnancy.
