Inhibin

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005845

A glycoprotein hormone produced by the gonads, specifically by Sertoli cells in males and granulosa cells in females, that selectively inhibits the secretion of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) from the anterior pituitary gland. It is a key regulator in the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, contributing to the feedback control of gamete production. Inhibin exists in two forms, inhibin A and inhibin B, with distinct physiological roles.
