Inhibition
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005846
The process where a substance reduces the rate of a chemical reaction or prevents it from occurring. This can happen through several mechanisms, such as blocking active sites on an enzyme, scavenging reactive intermediates, or forming stable complexes with reactants. The effectiveness of an inhibitor is often quantified by its inhibition constant.
