Allosteric enzymes
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000434
Enzymes that possess a regulatory site, known as the allosteric site, which is distinct from their catalytic active site. The binding of a specific molecule, an allosteric effector, to this site induces a conformational change in the enzyme that modifies its activity. This regulation can be either positive (activation) or negative (inhibition) and is a key feature of metabolic pathway feedback control, differing from competitive inhibition which occurs at the active site.
