Competitive inhibition
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002310
A type of enzyme inhibition where an inhibitor molecule binds reversibly to the active site of an enzyme, preventing the substrate from binding. The inhibitor and substrate compete for the same binding site, and increasing substrate concentration can overcome the inhibition. This inhibition increases the apparent Michaelis constant (Km) but does not change the maximum reaction rate (Vmax).
