Substrate
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011533
A chemical species that undergoes a transformation during a reaction, often catalyzed by an enzyme or another reagent. In enzymatic reactions, the substrate binds to the active site of the enzyme and is converted into a product. The specificity of an enzyme for its substrate is a key characteristic of biological catalysis.
