Substoichiometric isotope dilution analysis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011532
A radiochemical method for determining the concentration of a substance by adding a known amount of its radioactive isotope to the sample, then isolating a substoichiometric amount of the substance. The ratio of the isolated radioactive isotope to the total radioactive isotope added, combined with the known amount of added isotope, allows calculation of the original substance's concentration. This technique is particularly effective for trace analysis where complete separation of the analyte is difficult.
