Isotope dilution analysis

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006231

A quantitative analytical method for determining the concentration of a substance by adding a known amount of an isotopically enriched form of the same substance (the spike) to the sample. After thorough mixing and chemical equilibration, the isotopic ratio of the analyte is measured, typically by mass spectrometry. This method is highly accurate and can compensate for analyte losses during sample preparation.
