Spread monolayer

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011249

A single layer of molecules adsorbed or spread onto a liquid surface, typically water, where the molecules are not necessarily in close-packed arrangement. These monolayers are formed when a small amount of a surface-active substance is applied to a liquid, and the molecules spread out to cover the available area. Langmuir-Blodgett films are a well-known example of ordered spread monolayers.
