Monolayer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007550
A film that is one molecule or one atom thick, representing the thinnest possible layer of a substance on a surface. Monolayers form at the interface between two phases, such as a liquid and a gas or a solid and a liquid. The formation and properties of these layers are studied using techniques like the Langmuir-Blodgett trough.
