Self-assembled monolayer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010702
A molecular assembly that spontaneously forms an ordered, single-molecular layer on a solid surface through adsorption and self-organization. These monolayers are typically formed by molecules with a head group that binds to the surface and a tail group that forms an ordered array. They are widely used to modify surface properties for applications in sensors, coatings, and molecular electronics.
