Self-absorption factor
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010701
A correction factor applied in radioanalytical chemistry to account for the attenuation of radiation within the sample itself. This phenomenon occurs when emitted radiation interacts with the sample material before escaping, leading to a reduction in the detected signal. The factor depends on the energy of the radiation and the density and composition of the sample.
