Self-absorption broadening
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010699
The phenomenon in atomic emission spectroscopy where emitted radiation from excited atoms is reabsorbed by unexcited atoms of the same species within the light source or plasma. This reabsorption leads to a decrease in the intensity of the emitted line, particularly at the center of the spectral line, causing the line to appear broader and often with a dip. It is more pronounced at higher analyte concentrations.
