Homogeneous line-broadening
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005366
The broadening of a spectral line where all individual atoms or molecules in the sample contribute equally to the observed linewidth. This type of broadening arises from processes that affect all emitters uniformly, such as natural linewidth, collisional broadening, or saturation effects. It results in a Lorentzian line shape, which is characteristic of a single relaxation mechanism.
