Cauchy function
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001750
A mathematical function often used to describe spectral line shapes, particularly in cases where homogeneous broadening mechanisms dominate. It is characterized by a Lorentzian shape, with a peak at its center and broad tails. The full width at half maximum (FWHM) of a Cauchy function is directly related to the broadening parameter.
