Lorentzian band shape

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006771

A mathematical function describing the shape of a spectral line or peak, characterized by a symmetric profile that is tall and narrow with broad tails. The function is defined by a central frequency, a peak intensity, and a parameter for the full width at half maximum. This band shape is characteristic of spectral lines broadened by processes with an exponential decay, such as lifetime broadening.
