Gaussian band
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013121
A spectral band whose intensity profile as a function of frequency, wavelength, or wavenumber follows the shape of a Gaussian function. This symmetric, bell-shaped curve is defined by its peak position, maximum intensity, and full width at half maximum. Complex, overlapping spectra are frequently deconvoluted by fitting the overall envelope with a sum of individual Gaussian or Lorentzian component bands.
