Self-reversal

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010714

A phenomenon in atomic emission spectroscopy where the intensity of a spectral line decreases at its center due to absorption by cooler, non-emitting atoms in the outer regions of the light source. This effect leads to a dip in the emission profile, making the line appear broader or even split. It is particularly noticeable with high concentrations of the emitting species.
