Self-quenching
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010713
The reduction in the fluorescence or phosphorescence quantum yield of a substance due to interactions between excited-state molecules of the same species. This process occurs at higher concentrations where excited molecules can transfer energy to ground-state molecules, leading to non-radiative deactivation. It is a concentration-dependent phenomenon.
