Non-radiative quenching
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008047
The deactivation of an electronically excited state through interaction with its environment, such as collisions with solvent or a quencher molecule, in which the excitation energy is lost as heat or transferred to the partner instead of being emitted as a photon. It lowers luminescence intensity and, for dynamic quenching, lifetime, and it differs from intrinsic non-radiative decay such as internal conversion, which occurs without an external partner.
