Luminescence quenching

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006808

The reduction in the intensity or lifetime of luminescence from a substance, caused by a non-radiative energy transfer process. This phenomenon occurs when an excited luminescent molecule interacts with another molecule, known as a quencher, leading to deactivation without photon emission. Quenching can be static, involving complex formation, or dynamic, involving collisional encounters.
