Self-purification of the atmosphere
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010712
The natural processes by which the Earth's atmosphere removes pollutants and maintains its chemical composition. These processes include dispersion, wet and dry deposition, and chemical reactions, particularly those involving hydroxyl radicals, ozone, and photolysis. The atmosphere's capacity for self-purification is finite and can be overwhelmed by excessive emissions.
