Acid deposition
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000132
The process by which acidic compounds, primarily sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides, are removed from the atmosphere and deposited onto the Earth's surface. This can occur through wet deposition (acid rain, snow, fog) or dry deposition (acidic gases and particles). It leads to environmental damage, including acidification of lakes and soils, and corrosion of materials.
