Acid anhydrides
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000131
Organic compounds formed by the condensation of two carboxylic acid molecules, or by the reaction of a carboxylic acid with a dehydrating agent. They feature two acyl groups connected by an oxygen atom, forming the general structure RCO-O-COR'. These compounds are reactive and serve as acylating agents in organic synthesis, often used to introduce an acyl group into another molecule.
