Thioanhydrides

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012009

Compounds of the type acyl-S-acyl, in which a sulfur atom replaces the bridging oxygen of a carboxylic anhydride, also called diacyl sulfides or diacylsulfanes. One or both acyl groups may themselves be thioacyl groups. They act as acylating agents, analogous to anhydrides, and release a thiocarboxylic acid when they transfer an acyl group.
