Sulfides

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013613

Organic compounds containing a sulfur atom bonded to two organic groups, with the general formula R-S-R', where R and R' are alkyl or aryl groups. These compounds are also known as thioethers and are the sulfur analogues of ethers. Dimethyl sulfide is a common example, contributing to the odor of some foods.
