Thiohemiacetals

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012013

Organic compounds formed by the reaction of an aldehyde or ketone with a thiol, resulting in a functional group containing a carbon atom bonded to an alkyl or aryl group, a hydrogen atom (for aldehydes) or another alkyl/aryl group (for ketones), a hydroxyl group, and a thiol group. They are sulfur analogues of hemiacetals. These intermediates are often unstable and readily convert to more stable products.
