Ketones
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006327
Organic compounds containing a carbonyl functional group (C=O) bonded to two alkyl or aryl groups. The carbonyl carbon is not bonded to a hydrogen atom, distinguishing ketones from aldehydes. Acetone is the simplest ketone, and these compounds are widely used as solvents and in the synthesis of polymers and pharmaceuticals.
